Your Guide to the Perfect Palisade Day Trip

If you’ve been thinking about visiting Colorado’s wine country, this is your sign to do it! Palisade is known for its wine and peaches, but it has so much more to offer! And while it would take more than a day to experience all Palisade has to offer, we’ve put together the perfect day trip to Palisade for you.

HAVE SOME FARM-FRESH FUN

Palisade has a ton of great authentic agricultural opportunities! You can get a one-of-a-kind, field-to-table experience in Palisade: from picking fresh peaches, making friends with alpacas, and wandering through beautiful lavender fields. You can plan your farm adventure by calling local businesses ahead of time or by booking a tour through a local company.

  1. Stop and taste the peaches at one of Palisade’s U-Pick farms. Palisade is famous for its peaches, and they are at their best when picked fresh. Not a peach fan? Many of our orchards grow other produce like apricots, cherries, pears, and apples. U-Pick Tours are seasonal, June through September; hours vary and typically require an appointment.

  2. Stroll through orchards with alpacas at Suncrest Orchard Alpacas & Fiberworks. They offer visitors the best of both worlds! As one of the biggest peach farms in Palisade, you can get a true orchard experience that’s unique to Palisade while also palling around with alpacas. They even sprinkle in some education as you learn how yarn is made from alpaca fibers.

  3. Get lost in a relaxing sea of purple at Sage Creations & Organic Farms, located along the Fruit & Wine Byway. Sage Creations & Organic Farms allows visitors to pick their own lavender from beautiful fields of purple. They sell artisanal handcrafted lavender products and even have a seasonal greenhouse.

ENJOY A PINT ON THE PATIO AT THE BREWERY

Even in Colorado’s wine country, you can kick back on a brewery patio and enjoy a great meal! Palisade Brewing Company is one of our favorite places to have lunch. They not only have great beer but great food with daily specials and an expanded BBQ menu on the weekends. Fill up here before hitting the wineries. The brewery is right by downtown, so when you’re done, you can take a stroll through quaint downtown.

EXPLORE QUAINT DOWNTOWN PALISADE

Palisade’s historic downtown will give you small-town America feels. Pop into the Slice O Life Bakery to grab a tasty baked treat for later, shop for locally sourced products at The Purple Bee, check out Palisade’s artistic side in one of the multiple art galleries downtown, and so much more!

GO WINE TASTING ON THE FRUIT & WINE BYWAY

Your day in Palisade wouldn’t be complete without going wine tasting! While you’re in downtown, you can head into Palisade Cycle & Shuttle and pick up rental bikes for an afternoon exploring Colorado’s wineries on the Fruit & Wine Byway. Just make sure to book your reservation in advance. Biking not your style? There are a ton of other great tour options to get to the more than 25 wineries in Palisade. From limos, shuttles, and safari adventures, to pedicabs and horse-drawn carriage rides, you can ride in style along Palisade’s Fruit & Wine Byway.

While it might be a little too ambitious to try to visit all of Palisade’s wineries during your day trip, most of the wineries are conveniently located on our Fruit & Wine Byway, and you can truly build your own Colorado wine country adventure or follow one of the tried-and-true routes we’ve curated for you.

TREAT YOURSELF TO A LOCALLY SOURCED CULINARY EXPERIENCE

Don’t let the fact that you’re in a small town fool you; Palisade packs a culinary punch. If you want to treat yourself to some locally sourced cuisine that you’ll be raving about for days, make a reservation at Peche. Restaurant. Their culinary focus is to allow creativity to flourish. They take aspects of what they love most about Palisade and transform them into an unforgettable dining experience that brings the Grand Valley to life on your plate.
